This book was amazing。 It was very triggering for me due to the fact that certain things in her life were in alignment to situations in my own life。 Reading her words really made me self-reflect and dig up old wounds/traumas that I didn’t even realize I was suppressing all this time; for YEARS!! I ended this book feeling refreshed and more in love with self。 Do I still have a ways to go - sure; But this material definitely pointed me in the right direction in regards to finding the way to healin This book was amazing。 It was very triggering for me due to the fact that certain things in her life were in alignment to situations in my own life。 Reading her words really made me self-reflect and dig up old wounds/traumas that I didn’t even realize I was suppressing all this time; for YEARS!! A soothing book。 The cover and the layout are beautiful in themselves。 The prose is smooth, elegant, and infused with dignity。 Each short chapter contains a story from Elle's life, an affirmation, and a question for reflection。 While I whish there had been a little more substance (I was hoping for a more psychological approach for some reason), I really enjoyed After the Rain。 A soothing book。 The cover and the layout are beautiful in themselves。 The prose is smooth, elegant, and infused with dignity。 Each short chapter contains a story from Elle's life, an affirmation, and a question for reflection。 While I whish there had been a little more substance (I was hoping for a more psychological approach for some reason), I really enjoyed After the Rain。 。。。more

I've read Alexandra Elle's other books of poetry and really enjoy not only her work, but also her vulnerability。 This book felt a little different from her other poetry books - it felt like a mix of poetry and memoir which I enjoyed。 Elle stayed open and vulnerable in this book, probably even more so than in her other books。 While it did have the feel of a memoir, Elle chose subjects that everyone could learn from - self-care, self-confidence, loving others and yourself well, etc。 This book show I've read Alexandra Elle's other books of poetry and really enjoy not only her work, but also her vulnerability。 This book felt a little different from her other poetry books - it felt like a mix of poetry and memoir which I enjoyed。 Elle stayed open and vulnerable in this book, probably even more so than in her other books。 While it did have the feel of a memoir, Elle chose subjects that everyone could learn from - self-care, self-confidence, loving others and yourself well, etc。 This book showed that Elle has had some struggles and hard moments in life, but she takes those and creates beautiful works of poetry out of them which can help others in their journey。 。。。more

This book is like a warm embrace。 Although what’s being said isn’t particularly new, it is presented in a way that is gentle and kind, like listening to a supportive and understanding friend。 The letters she wrote to herself and to the reader brought me to tears。 This is one to keep at your bedside。

Relatable and useful。 A book I will reach for again。

VERY self help。 It would have appealed to me in my 20,s, but not in my 70’s。

It was okay, I guess? Not really my thing。 I didn’t find the writing very compelling, and I mostly skimmed it。 I think other people might get something out of it, but it just wasn’t for me。

The writers “note to you” at the end of the book was something i didnt know i needed。 This book was a reminder to stay true to myself and helped me understand that healing will always be an ongoing process。

I HIGHLY recommend everyone read this book!

This book is just beautiful。 I heard Ms。 Elle 's interview on "On Being" podcast, then ordered the book。 She shares so m any personal experiences, I really admire her courage。 She is a true writer, not afraid to share her life and experiences。 This book is just beautiful。 I heard Ms。 Elle 's interview on "On Being" podcast, then ordered the book。 She shares so m any personal experiences, I really admire her courage。 She is a true writer, not afraid to share her life and experiences。 。。。more

I read this for the Josh Bell book club。 (Josh Bell is a baseball player with the Washington Nationals。) I don't usually read this kind of book。 I'm still pondering what I may have gotten out of it。 I read this for the Josh Bell book club。 (Josh Bell is a baseball player with the Washington Nationals。) I don't usually read this kind of book。 I'm still pondering what I may have gotten out of it。 。。。more

I stumbled on to this book from a suggested online book club and the timing was perfect。 I loved the lessons and experience she shared and the questions to reflect on。 “You do not need outside validation to be happy, free, and authentic。 Self-celebration is your birthright。 Give yourself permission to be flawed。 Give yourself space to self-correct and reroute。 You are deserving of your own mercy。”

Tracy Turner

Lots of helpful informationThis was a good book with a lot of helpful information。 At times I felt it was kind of slow and a little bit deeper than what I was looking for。

I loved starting my mornings by reading a chapter at a time and pausing and reflecting on the wisdom in her words。 This book, much like the process of healing, is a journey。 It can't be rushed。 I like that Alexandra continually reminds us that healing isn't a linear or easy process; it's personal to each of us, and often, very painful and exhausting。 Each chapter in "After the Rain" is a topic or theme Alexandra experienced in her own transformation: change, self-love, soothing and suffering, ti I loved starting my mornings by reading a chapter at a time and pausing and reflecting on the wisdom in her words。 This book, much like the process of healing, is a journey。 It can't be rushed。 I like that Alexandra continually reminds us that healing isn't a linear or easy process; it's personal to each of us, and often, very painful and exhausting。 Each chapter in "After the Rain" is a topic or theme Alexandra experienced in her own transformation: change, self-love, soothing and suffering, time, validation, love, becoming, family, learning to breathe, healing, identity, comparison, dedication, acceptance, and forgiveness。 In each chapter, Alexandra begins by sharing her personal story, followed by an affirmation and meditation on the topic。 I loved how honest, vulnerable, and open she was with her story。 Whether her story reflected my story or not didn't matter。 What mattered was how the emotions she felt - the pain and lack of self-love and difficulty to change - are ubiquitous。 Everyone everywhere knows what it feels like to lose faith in ourselves or to get hurt by someone we love。 Reading her story, I always felt understood, heard, and seen。 I thought the way she organized the book was thoughtful, beautiful, and transformative in itself。 Alexandra's words are loving, gentle, encouraging, and inspiring - and always full of hope。 "Remember, the goal isn't to escape, become numb, or ignore what hurts or haunts。 It's to acknowledge, accept, and appreciate all that comes with the ebb and flow of healing。" It's the kind of book we can carry with us, and return to at different stages of our lives。 It holds space for us to show up as we are。"I deserve to see myself in the same warm glow that I see others。 My light is abundant。 My joy is important。 I deserve to take up space。"What Alexandra would tell her younger self about mending after being broken: "Hold your hurt, rest in your pain more often, stop running from fear。 Don't be afraid to touch and face what scares you most。 Asking for help doesn't make you weak。 Collapse into vulnerability; that is where you will find resilience。 Take care of the soft and tender spots of your grief and process and bandage them slowly。 Rushing to rebuild won't make you heal any faster。 I would tell her that it's fine to be a mess。 It's good, even。 An immense amount of magic can be found in the chaotic moments we encounter。"My favorite chapter was the last one - on forgiveness。 "The pain from old wounds sometimes lingers, clings to you like a second skin that you can't seem to outgrow。 Perhaps, even, makes you want to forget who you are and who you were and all it's taken to get here。 But today, you are still standing。 I am proud of you and your becoming。" 。。。more

this is a collection of essays on self-discovery/healing written by a poet。 i felt the stories are not as relatable and told in such a non-linear way that i had a hard time piecing together the author's lifei did like the meditation prompts at the end of each chapter。 but in general kinda disappointed bc it wasn't very helpful or insightful for me this is a collection of essays on self-discovery/healing written by a poet。 i felt the stories are not as relatable and told in such a non-linear way that i had a hard time piecing together the author's lifei did like the meditation prompts at the end of each chapter。 but in general kinda disappointed bc it wasn't very helpful or insightful for me 。。。more

Alexandra’s Elle’s After the Rain, is now a strong resource for affirmative internal work in my life。 Her work shares intimate moments in her life through memoir fashion while effectively creating a message for the reader。 Though she shares her experience, the book is meant for her audience。 Her writing brings the reader under her wing as if you are having a conversation with an older sister。 This work is good for the soul and initiated moments of reflection I needed to have for myself。 A line t Alexandra’s Elle’s After the Rain, is now a strong resource for affirmative internal work in my life。 Her work shares intimate moments in her life through memoir fashion while effectively creating a message for the reader。 Though she shares her experience, the book is meant for her audience。 Her writing brings the reader under her wing as if you are having a conversation with an older sister。 This work is good for the soul and initiated moments of reflection I needed to have for myself。 A line that stood out is “You can’t silence your suffering” - something I feel many of ya do to suppress the hardships at hand。 I compulsively look up her other works on social media。 I would highly recommend this to anyone who is going through a reflective period in their life。 。。。more

Even though the language may be too flower-y and overcompensated with metaphors at times, this was an essential meditation on acceptance and forgiveness that is radically changing how I work through some significant personal events in my life。
